Our Teen Program

The Gila Valley Boys and Girls Club is sponsoring a new Teen Program.  Our program offers a way for teens to be separated from our younger Club members.  Teens get the opportunity to participate in a variety of special programs and activities.  These programs include: Goals for Graduation, Jr. Staff, Money Matters, and various Community Service projects.  The teen room has many opportunities to use various talents as well.  An X-box 360 with many different games, art projects, computers, and couches await the teens daily.  Outdoor activities including trips to the park, fairgrounds, movie theater, and bowling alley occur throughout the year as well.  Overall, the Teen Room is for the teens and what they want and desire is the core of our programming.

Jr. Staff

A career development class offered to children 10 & up.  It provides skills necessary to obtain a job.  These skills include: making and forming an application, interview etiquette, and job technique.  More responsibility is given to Jr. Staff, as they are asked to help Lead Staff.

Money Matters

This program is designed to teach teens the importance of money.  Participants learn how to manage a checking account, budget, save and invest. They also learn about starting small businesses and paying for college.

Community Service Projects

The teen program has adopted part of the City of Safford Bike/Walk trail.  In adopting this trail, they clean and pick up trash along it quarterly.  Other projects include: reading and helping younger members with homework and visiting the nursing home.

Goals for Graduation

Teens are introduced to academic goal setting by linking their future aspirations with concrete actions today. In goal-setting sessions with Club youth development professionals, members set achievable “Know-I-Can” Goals, more challenging “Think-I-Can” Goals, and yearly “Believe-I-Can” goals. Members create an action plan with daily and weekly goals leading to short- and long-term gains.
